Doug Hamilton graduated with a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of Toronto (Trinity College) in 1974 and then obtained his LLB degree from U of T in 1977. He articled in a downtown Toronto law firm and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1979.
Doug began working as in-house legal counsel for Goodyear Canada Inc. after being called to the Bar and continued in that role for 34 years before retiring in 2013. He became President of Goodyear Canada in 2009 until his retirement. Doug was an officer and director of Goodyear Canada for many years and also served on the Boards of various subsidiaries, primarily subsidiaries which operated retail networks. He also served on the Board of Ontario Tire Stewardship, the industry-funded tire recycling body in Ontario and on the Board of the Rubber Association of Canada.
These experiences have given Doug a thorough understanding of the role of the Law Department in a large multi-national corporation and of the constituent elements which ensure the overall success (or failure) of the business in general. He has the skills of a generalist practising commercial law (plus a few specialized skills) and, as a business person, the ability to identify issues and the potential for improvement. Doug is a family man and has been an active member of his local United Church for many years.
